Is it possible to install a metal suspended ceiling in rooms with high humidity? What are the advantages of a metal rail over a wooden one?

According to our statistics of appeals, there has recently been a trend in the use of suspended ceilings in private homes, namely in pools. Typically, customers opt for rack ceilings or grillato. By the way, we already had articles in which we examined the GLK open cell ceiling in the interior of the pool, as well as the use of a cube-shaped rail for decorating a canopy above an outdoor pool in a private house.

The main question about the use of metal ceilings in rooms with high humidity - is the ceiling rusting? For grilyato and slats, we use galvanized steel with a polymer coating on the front side. And if during installation the coating is not broken (scratches, cuts, etc.), then there will be no corrosion on the visible side. And KRAFT gives a guarantee of 3 years for through corrosion, although in reality this figure can be 2-3 times more.

1. Color and texture
The metal cube-shaped rail surpasses wood in the possibilities of coloring and texture. The basic colors of KRAFT include 5 colors and 3 wood textures. In fact, these colors and textures are suitable for 98% of the rooms. But if, for design reasons, standard colors are not enough, then we can paint the rail in any color on the RAL scale or offer other textures of wood, stone, metal.

2. The total weight of the structure
Look at the photo below and estimate how many kilograms or even tons such a wooden ceiling would weigh. The cube-shaped KRAFT rail has an order of magnitude less weight.

3. Assembly and disassembly
Obviously, the installation of a suspended ceiling from a cube-shaped rail is easier. You have a ready-made suspension system, the rail is easily attached to the traverse. Here a small mass of rail also plays a role. If even one person can cope with a metal rail independently, then in order to lift and fix for example a 6-meter wooden rail, at least two people, or even more, will be required.
Dismantling for maintenance of communications (lamps, ventilation, etc.) in the case of a cubic rail is also much easier. The rail is simply and without additional damage removed from the traverse and during re-installation does not lose its appearance.

4. Service life, appearance
As described above, the service life of a metal rail can reach 5-10 years. This period is comparable or even exceeds (depending on the quality of the impregnation) resistance to moisture and fungus of processed wooden products. At the same time, during the entire period of operation, the rail does not lose its appearance.

And finally, an advantage for those who love variety! If after five years you get tired of the color or design of the ceiling, then you can easily change it. The fastening system in any case will remain in place, and you will only need to install a new rail!
